Climate Risk: Made Bankable

Climate Risk: Made Bankable

How can climate risks be made measurable, manageable, and structured so that sustainable finance becomes credible and investable?

South Africa’s financial sector has the regulatory foundation, a growing project pipeline, and the institutional capacity to lead sustainable finance across the continent. What remains missing is a shared, practitioner-led platform capable of translating political intent and technical capability into bankable transactions at scale.

Despite meaningful progress, the market continues to face a distinct set of structural constraints: an evolving green finance taxonomy, uneven climate-risk disclosure practices, limited integration of physical climate risk into credit and investment models, and a transition finance architecture that is still underdeveloped for the country’s most climate-exposed sectors.

These are not awareness gaps. They are bankability constraints. SASFI exists to close this gap. It is a practitioner-led platform designed to convert policy ambition into executable, investable outcomes.
